Upcoming Richard L. Thompson Lecture Series: Vedic Cosmography and Astronomy
By Prishni Sutton, BIHE | Jun 24, 2023
The Bhaktivedanta Institute for Higher Studies has completed Mechanistic and Nonmechanistic Science (1981) and will continue the Richard L. Thompson (Sadaputa Das) Lecture Series by introducing his second published book, Vedic Cosmography and Astronomy (1989) on July 1, 2023, at 11 AM EDT.
Dr. Thompson shows in this pioneering work that Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam’s Fifth Canto cosmography and the accounts of the solar system found in the Jyotisa Sastras, as well as in modern observable astronomy, are not contradictory, but that they in fact represent distinct yet mutually consistent ways of comprehending a universe with important features beyond the range of ordinary sense perception.
We cordially invite you to attend the opening lecture, featuring one of Sadaputa’s early and enthusiastic supporters, Brahmatirtha (BIHS Director), who will explain how his basic arguments stand the test of time. The Introduction to Vedic Cosmography and Astronomy will be presented by Prishni Sutton.
Please visit the BIHS Events page for Zoom links and more information about this event. You may view the Mechanistic and Nonmechanistic Science lectures on the BIHS YouTube channel.
For easy access to a full collection of Sadaputa’s lectures, papers, and videos, please visit the Richard L. Thompson Archives. His books are available on Amazon.com — see RLTA.com/books for more information.
We hope you can join us and take advantage of this VCA lecture series to help deepen appreciation of the legacy of Srila Prabhupada’s Bhaktivedanta Institute and Sadaputa’s role as a founding pioneer.

I am curious if devotees have made any significant progress in the vedic astronomy science research.
