ISKCON Malaysia Damodar Month Preaching at Local Schools

ISKCON Malaysia Headquarters, Sri Jagannatha Mandir, Kuala Lumpur created a record this year where a team of devotees conducted Damodara Program or also known as Deepa-Damodara Programs at a total of 25 local primary schools (ages 5 to 12) in the whole of Damodara month (from 27th Oct to 29th Nov). This is a grand milestone for Sri Jagannatha Mandir, with a total lamp shown at 104,747 and with 8656 total plates of Prasadam distributed.

The Damodara Month preaching was inspired by HH Srila Jayapataka Swami and so devotees all over Malaysia go out to schools, prisons, homes, orphanages, and even on the streets getting others to show a lamp to Lord Damodar and even give Prasadam out to everyone. Glories of showing lamps during this month is also spread to everyone so that they gain the mercy and blessings from Lord Damodara. With this inspiration, Sri Jagannatha Mandir surpassed its targeted lamps with a new achievement of 222, 284 lamps and with 19,721 plates of full meal Prasadam being distributed.

The spokesperson and coordinator for Schools’ Damodara Preaching, HG Rasa Parayana das (Co-Temple President) mentioned that with good planning and efficient team, they were able to achieve this wonderful milestone. He also added that the team came early to help in the cooking, to pack and helped more at schools making sure the children were safe as well while showing the lamps to Lord Damodara.

The entire team is now inspired to do more next year. The children’s roar of the Maha Mantra and their enthusiasm in showing lamps to Lord Damodara was very inspiring and amazing at the same time. The Damodara preaching is a very effective way in connecting with local Hindu community, as it is well received and cherished by them. Through this preaching, a large part of the community has become great well-wishers of ISKCON and faith in Lord Krishna (Damodara) is strengthened in them.
